Busy Bee doing Voluntry work!

I mentioned a few posts back that I do voluntary work  in scouting Ireland!. I was asked my our group leader if I would design a badge to represent Rathkeale scouting.
 Heres a few pics with the planning and experimenting,

 

• The Rathkeale scouting colours are red and green, and our uniform is navey blue
• The hand symbol on its own is the scouting symbol and is used during meetings to gather the children's attention. They learn this symbol  when they first join in the scouting community.
• The symbol in the hand that is held by the baby and thumb finger is the Fleur De Ly's symbol, this is the international symbol of scouting.
• I have a capital 'R' in the middle of the Fleur De Ly's symbol to represent Rathkeale.

Shapes: Generally main important badges are in large circles

And badges earned for activities and outings are square

Here is the almost finished piece, it has be confirmed and accpeted to use by the head of scouting Ireland, however I may have to make some minor changes!!

So this is when things get really exciting!

Okay so liquorice and g-strings what can I do, since they are really expensive I couldn't go too large with the sculpture piece. The smallest size can stretch up to twice its fitting, and the largest, well can go just as big. I just began messing around and seen what happens.

 

 The liquorice connects the front to the back and acts as the 'string'

I found these most interesting, quick and fun to make.

Experimenting with balloons, although they are not stretched, the view must physically pull the balloons to make them extend

 .

This is an abstract piece, the size triangles represent the thong, large for the front piece and small triangles for the back. The balloons are for the elasticity and the various colours are so there is no limit.

This idea had originated from experimenting with the triangles first and with negative and positive spacing,

An upside down triangle symbolises- Female, hence the upside down shape on front for women's underwear.

A triangle right upside up symbolises- Male

So from keeping this in mind and from the image above I began working in black and white and triangles

Hello, it's Friday!!

Well today we had our critique like any other Friday, we had Des and he picked a few random people in the room to talk about our sculpture pieces. It was fun and interesting to hear what some students spoke about and where their idea originated from. Since mine is on elasticity and stretching, I was thinking underwear such as g-strings would be enjoyable and also very entertaining. It will be enjoyable as it is something different to work with and entertaining to see peoples reactions and to hear what their opinion is of the sculpture piece.  I was hoping to combine the g-strings with the liquorice, hanging and stretching them from the ceiling.

Yup so I'll get started working on these on monday As it will be placed in our studio

Uh Stretchy time you guys woop woop

My first discipline is sculpture and it is for two weeks, omg its soooo fricking exciting, scary but exciting!! Toodles to my brain,memory and thoughts project and hellooooooo elasticity and stretchy time!!

We got our information sheet( mike says its not a brief)... so we got our titles on the senses. From that I chose touch... uh yeah.... and from touch I had picked an action and mine is to stretch!

Heeeeeey,

Omg I choose my 3 disciplines which are sculpture, ceramics and graphics....
Why I picked them? Well I always loved working with clay, I have seen so many fantastic pieces of pottery and ceramics, I have done quite a bit myself, but I don't want to stop there I have alot more to see, and find out what ceramics has got to offer me in me in a few weeks time.
Sculpture, wtf? boring.... that's what I thought years ago, like uh I'll make sculpture figurines of people, ya sounds dead boring, very boring.. However, a few weeks back we got a talk all about sculpture and I was dazzled by it, WHAT paint is sculpture, ceramics, animation, print, fashion... their all aspects of sculpture now days. Like wow, I think it pretty much covers all disciplines if you want it to, uh and sound art, thats pretty class too!!... so I couldn't wait to start that, and graphics.... ya I began to re-like it since my project on thoughts and memories, and working with typography....  I really really wanna do Art teaching, its been my thing since I went on work experience last year, but yeah my dad, my Nana, my sister go on saying ''uhhh LAUR you get jobs in graphics, oh thats where the jobs are, why aren't you picking graphics... Well sorry to say, I think graphics is grand, I know design is the place with jobs, I want to have money but It doesn't bother me if I wasn't a multi millionaire... its not want I enjoy most, its not what I have most fun in,  I love ceramics with all my heart but its either that or sculpture unless something happens to bring me on another journey. So far I still want to do teaching, I'm just unsure what area I want to specialise in. I'm afraid of making the wrong choice, but surely its your instincts and what you love most and enjoy doing, no point doing something your not happy with... Am I right or am I wrong?

So over the Christmas while busy spending money money money.... for my two friends I had bought them two gifts already and wasn't quiet sure what else to get them... but seen as I love painting as a hobby, I painted each of them a painting, I often do them for family so I designed a painting with their names and their fave colours.

OK sorry for the shit quality I have been using my phone to document my work... still on the progress of getting a camera I promise hehe.... This one starts off dark purple and fades off up in to white, and a lil design!!

I also do voluntary working in scouting Ireland, so I am a beaver leader in my local town. I have been busy aswel designing a logo to represent us so that other scouting groups can recognise Rathkeale with the logo. I shall up date ye with the designs too.

Typography, I may not be an expert but I am here to learn

Hey so I came away from the tea and power stuff, must say I was quite addicted... however as my project lead me n to explore more, and I began just doing that. So typography is the new thing now, it was great fun, really enjoyed it, even though graphics wasn't my fav last year during my PLC, but this year its totally diff. I love keeping my options open, you just never know what could happen. So I have a lil bit here but I have to add more pictures to this so please check back up, theres more!!!

Newspaper letters, I know it doesn't suit or work but hey I had fun experimenting and exploring! It works on secrets not so much memories unless it is very personal!

Era I was playing around with different fonts and getting to know some words suiting some fonts, so I done a mix in this one....

Hey I'm back, sorry I couldn't up date my blog since before Christmas so im gonna update ye with  some work I had been doing to prepare for assessments!

Printed copies of every ones thoughts and memories, this is already published but I extended it so here is the update on that!

Working with latex!

I decided to place the latex brain on some family members, and due to it been clear I also placed it on the Xmas tree lights !
