So We were given demonstrations by our tutors Kirean and Elaine. They showed us how to make pinch pots and coil pots which are the main basic ones. On Tuesday we went to the Ceramic Dept and brought our sketched plans with us. We were allowed to begin making our plans into 3D forms. I began making some basic jugs which came from my natural environment research. I started off with a pinch pot and build some up using coils.
Making a pinch pot
Roll some clay into a ball and
place thumb in the centre, by using pressure, press thumb fully in.
Use your thumb, index and middle finger and press around the clay until you have a hole and a base. Make sure not to make the walls of the pot too thin.
I then got a small bit more clay and began to roll it out to make coils
. This process is used to build the rest of my pieces
Once 3-4 coils are layered on top of the pinch pot, use your thumb or index finger to smoothen or to blend each coil individually.
Once those coils are blended, you can then add more, but be careful in case it collapses.
My Ceramic pieces all have a curve spout as they are like plant styes and also its from the natural environment! Its also like my little trade mark!
My Vase I made last year, and again, natural with the curved spout
